Work party games: entertainment that works, without it becoming a second job
Have you been asked to come up with something for the party at work? Then you know it comes on top of your normal job, and that you quickly end up giving up your free time for it. Is it a quiz again this year? Who is going to write the questions? And what if it does not work, when everybody knows who was behind it?
This guide shows what to think about before you choose the evening's entertainment, where it fits in, and what to prepare.
Four questions before you choose
A work party brings together people who would not necessarily have chosen to sit next to each other. Different ages, roles and tastes suddenly share one table. Entertainment that suits only one part of the group can make for a long evening for the rest. These questions make the choice easier:
- How much work is it for you? Somebody has to book, prepare and lead. The less you have to do yourself, the more you get out of the evening.
- What happens if it does not work? Entertainment that depends on one person or one idea can leave dead moments and awkward silence. Choose something you can test before the party.
- Should people watch or join in? Watching asks little of your guests. Joining in gives them more to talk about afterwards.
- Does it work for everybody? Also for those who do not drink, those who are new, and those who would rather not be in the spotlight.
Flaksorama: the entertainment is sorted, and you know it works
Flaksorama is a party game for work parties and work events. The game board runs on a big screen, and everybody plays at the same time on their own phone, with no app. You answer trivia questions, remember images, draw and compete in short minigames while your pieces move across the board. Finally, something other than a quiz.
You already have a job. We sort out the entertainment:
- No preparation. No questions to write, no app to install, no rehearsal. You are ready in five minutes.
- No host. The game runs itself and explains the minigames on the screen. You can play too, and be a guest at your own party.
- No dead moments. The game keeps the room going from the first to the last round. The minigames vary, and everybody can contribute.
- It is not the same three people who win every time. Knowledge helps, but bonuses, setbacks and lottery tickets can turn everything around. Anybody can win.
- Nobody goes on stage. Everybody plays on their own phone, also those who would rather avoid attention.
- Remote colleagues can join. The game works on a big screen and on Teams or Zoom.
Colleagues who do not usually work together get something to talk about on Monday. And you get the credit for the entertainment, without giving up your free time.
How to know it works before the party
It is your party, and we understand that you want to feel sure about the plan. That is why you can try it before you pay, and if you are not happy afterwards, you get your money back.
- Try the demo for free. It takes under a minute to start, and you do not need an account. Run it on the screen you will use.
- Your money back, no questions asked. Not happy? Send us an email and you get your money back.
What you can count on:
- Ready in five minutes, almost no preparation.
- No app, only a browser.
- Up to 20 players per game (or more if you pair up two and two).
- Around 30 minutes from start to finish.
- No host, the game moves on by itself.
Which game pack suits your work party?
The Office turns the workplace into a game board, with office trivia and coffee-break minigames. Choose it if you want to laugh at everyday work life together.
World Stage takes the party around the world, with themes from culture, music, film and sport. Choose it if you want something that has nothing to do with work.
Both packs are available for up to 20 players. You pay by card, or by invoice if you order for a Norwegian company. You can see the prices on the game packs page.
Where the entertainment fits in the evening
A simple programme gives more than a full one, because people need time to talk. This running order works for most work parties:
- Arrival. Give people time to arrive, find a seat and greet each other.
- Food. Let the meal finish before you start something that needs attention.
- The entertainment. Start while everybody is still together. Flaksorama takes around 30 minutes.
- Prize. Give out the prize at once, while the mood is good.
- Music and mingling. The rest of the evening is for those who want to stay.
Do not put the main entertainment too late. When some people are already on their way home, it is hard to bring the group back together.
Checklist before the party
- Try the demo on the screen you will use, so you know it works.
- Test the sound and the Wi-Fi in the room.
- Sit where your guests will sit, and check that the screen is visible.
- Decide who starts the game. That person can play too.
- Buy a small prize.
- Have a simple backup plan in case the technology fails.
Try the demo for free, so you know it works before you decide. See all the packs on the game packs page. Planning the Christmas party? We have separate tips for office Christmas party games.
Frequently asked questions
What are good work party games for a small team?+
Choose something everybody can join, not something people only watch. For a group of up to 20, a big-screen game or a quiz often works better than a stage act, because everybody plays at the same time. Flaksorama is made for this size.
Do we need to hire entertainment for a work party?+
No. A comedian or a band can be a good choice, but it is not necessary. With a ready-made game like Flaksorama, you only need a big screen and your phones. You start the game, and then you can play too.
How much time do I need to prepare?+
Almost none. Flaksorama is ready in five minutes. You do not have to write questions, install an app or rehearse.
Does somebody have to host the game?+
No. The game moves on by itself and explains the minigames on the screen. The person who starts the game can play too.
What if it does not work?+
Try the demo for free on the screen you will use, so you know it works before the party. If you were still not happy, send us an email and you get your money back. No questions asked.
What about colleagues who do not want attention?+
Choose an activity where nobody performs alone. In Flaksorama, everybody plays on their own phone, so nobody has to stand up in front of the others.
Which game pack suits a work party?+
Choose The Office for games about everyday work life, with office trivia and coffee-break minigames. Choose World Stage for something that has nothing to do with work, with themes from culture, music, film and sport.
How long does a game of Flaksorama take?+
A game takes around 30 minutes from start to finish.
How many people can play Flaksorama?+
One game has room for 20 phones, so up to 20 people can play on their own. If you are more, two or three people can share a phone and play under one name. Then 40–60 people can join the same game.
Can remote colleagues join?+
Yes. The game works on a big screen and on Teams or Zoom. Colleagues who join on video play on their own phone.
What do we need to play?+
You need a big screen for the game board, such as a TV or a projector, and one phone with a browser for each player. Nobody needs to install an app.
Can we pay by invoice?+
Yes. You can pay by card, and Norwegian companies can also pay by invoice.
